What if I told you that an eternal and unending source of power exists right in your home and you can harness its power almost every day?
Would you believe me or just dismiss this as one of those sermons of self help and inner powers of the subconscious mind?
With all due respect to these, I am talking about something more tangible, something that you see every day and fortunately, it does not distinguish between the rich or the poor, the urban or the rural population. Everyone gets the same amount, okay, maybe there is a slight variation depending on whether your house has a roof that’s open to the sky or it is an apartment which has other houses on top of each other.
All the houses in such an apartment can still leverage this unlimited source of energy.
By now, you would have guessed, we are talking about solar panel power for homes and businesses
Solar Energy is revolutionizing the global energy landscape. Generating electricity from solar energy is fast becoming a cheap option. According to a recently conducted study, the per unit rate for solar energy conversion comes to less than the traditional coal or hydro source of generating electricity.
Electricity converted from solar energy will soon be the world’s cheapest form of energy and is being used in residential as well as business scenarios.
We often see the photos of the International Space Station (ISS) with its solar panels spread out, drawing power from the Sun’s energy. You don’t have to be an astronaut or a space traveller to take advantage of the Sun rays hitting your home or office roof tops. Installing the right quantity and type of solar panels can help make your home or office self reliant in terms of its electric power requirements.
Sometimes, there is excess power and it can even be returned to the grid. These are on the grid type solar panel power generators and with the help of your local utility providers, you can get into such agreements.
Won’t you just love it if you got paid by the utility company for the surplus power that you supplied to the grid?
This is the eternal source of power that I mentioned in the earlier part of this article.
Is it really worth the effort?
I am sure this got you thinking, is this all really worth the money? I mean the ISS and the satellites that have the solar panels cost many million dollars and these solar panels and solar to electricity conversion is a very expensive affair.
However, with the remarkable drop in the cost of producing these photovoltaic (PV) cells and additional government subsidy, finance schemes and other economic benefits being provided by the government of India, lot of people are opting for this to start saving literally in tens of thousands in their yearly electricity expenses.
The largest solar power system in India
India also boasts of having the world’s largest solar energy farm in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India. Inaugurated in 2016 and fully functional, this is the largest solar power system in India and perhaps the whole world too. It has a capacity to generate more than 640 MW of power, enough to light up 160,000 homes. (Source economic times)
Pretty soon, India is poised to become the third largest solar market after China and the US. The other advantage of going for this solar option is the reduction in air pollution and water pollution making it a clean and green source of energy.
Set an example and others will follow —
You need not wait for a call from the space agency to get these hi-tech devices at home. Your homes and businesses can also be solar powered and can be an example to others in the neighbourhood and to the next generation.
Let’s pass on a cleaner and greener planet to our children and make their future safe and pollution free. Let’s harness the Sun, smartly and efficiently.
